Why Every Room in My Home Has a Signature Scent

When I started Polished Kitchen & Home, I wasn’t just focused on creating beautiful things. I wanted to help people feel something the moment they stepped into a room.

That feeling—the warmth, the calm, the sense of ease you can’t always name—was something I grew up with. My mom had a gift for it. She made our home feel intentional, even without saying a word. There was always a softness to the space. A rhythm. A sense that you were safe and held.

Years later, when I had spaces of my own, I found myself trying to recreate that feeling. And more often than not, it started with scent.

Over time, I came to believe that every room deserves a signature scent—a mood, a memory, a moment that anchors you.
Here’s how I layer fragrance throughout my home, and how you can too:

Bedroom: The Place I Reset

My bedroom is sacred. It’s where I quiet the noise. I always start with a few spritzes of fabric mist on the pillows and headboard. Then I light a candle—something calming like Golden Time of Day—and let it glow while I wind down. A sachet in my closet adds just enough scent to carry over to the next morning. It’s soft, intentional, and peaceful.

Closet & Drawers: Little Luxuries

I love opening a drawer and catching a gentle scent. It’s the kind of detail that doesn’t scream for attention—but you feel it. I tuck sachets between sweaters and linens to keep everything fresh and softly perfumed. It makes getting dressed in the morning feel like self-care.

Bathroom: Where I Pause

Bathrooms should feel like retreat spaces. I keep a fabric mist in mine and use it on towels, bathmats, and the air itself after a shower. On slower days, I’ll light a candle by the tub and let the scent fill the space while I read or reflect. Even a few minutes makes a difference.

Living Room: Where Everyone Gathers

I use a larger candle in this space—something grounding like Oud Noir. I place it on the coffee table or a shelf where it can warm the room quietly. It’s always burning in the background during dinners, movie nights, or when guests stop by. It makes people feel at ease, and that matters to me.

Entryway or Home Office: First Impressions

Whether I’m walking into my home or sitting down to focus, I want the space to feel like me. I keep a mist nearby and spray it on the air or a curtain to reset the energy. It’s the first thing I do before a meeting—or after one.

Truth is, scent isn’t just fragrance.

It’s memory. It’s presence. It’s how we communicate softness, warmth, and care without saying a word.

That’s why I created these pieces—for anyone looking to make space feel like home.

If you’re ready to find your signature scent, I’d love to help you get started.
