Rooted in Rest: The Story Behind Paulette Maray and Polished Kitchen & Home

I started Polished Kitchen & Home in 2020 with a simple but powerful belief:
Rest shouldn’t be a reward—it should be the standard.

That belief took root during one of the most uncertain moments in recent history. The world had slowed to a halt. We were all home more than ever before. And in the middle of the global pandemic—while still working from home full-time in corporate leadership—I found myself staring at the walls of my space, craving more comfort, more beauty, and more intentionality.

I needed to feel good in my home. So I began elevating it, one polished detail at a time. That spark became Polished Kitchen & Home—a lifestyle brand built to help others create peace in every corner of their lives, starting at home.

But the story doesn’t stop there. That was just the beginning.

Why Bedding? Why Rest? Why Me?

I’ve spent over 20 years in hospitality, service, and recruiting leadership—most recently leading talent teams at places like Best Buy, Stripe, and Amazon. But my story begins much earlier, in a home where comfort and beauty were non-negotiable. I grew up watching my mother create spaces that were not only beautiful but deeply intentional. She taught me that quality home furnishings weren’t just about status—they were about care. Her eye for craftsmanship, her love for textiles, and her attention to detail shaped my understanding of what it means to live well. Our home was a place of comfort, warmth, and quiet luxury—and it taught me to value how a space makes you feel.

I earned my degree in Hospitality Management from Howard University and began my career planning events in hotels—learning how scent, texture, and lighting could transform how people feel. I later transitioned into corporate retail and talent acquisition, where I helped people find purpose in their work. But after years of chasing the next role and pouring into everyone else, I found myself burned out. And then, like so many during the Great Resignation—I was laid off. Twice. In less than a year.

I chose rest.

I left the country and moved to Mexico for a year-long sabbatical. And during that season of pause, Paulette Maray was born.

Legacy in Every Thread

Paulett-Maray isn’t just a name—it’s my name. My middle name, passed down from two women who helped shape me.

My maternal grandmother, Mary, worked in hospitality at the Holiday Inn. She understood service. She knew what it meant to care for others by creating clean, comfortable spaces. My paternal grandmother, Pauline, passed before I could meet her—but she and my grandfather raised a family of eight in a one-bedroom house, proving that love, resourcefulness, and intention could make even the smallest space feel full.

Their legacy lives in every piece I design.

With Paulette Maray, I’ve created a line of premium bedding and home fragrances that brings all of that wisdom forward. Our long-staple cotton rivals the finest hotels, but the feeling it offers is far more personal. It’s about slowing down. It's about coming home to yourself. It's about setting a new standard—for comfort, for quality, for peace.

Setting a New Standard in Bedding & Home Decor

When I looked around the bedding and home decor space, I didn’t see many Black women—not as founders, not as designers, not as the face of high-end home. So I built what I couldn’t find. A brand that reflects my taste. My story. My roots.

At Polished Kitchen & Home, we believe the little things matter: a perfectly placed pillow, a freshly made bed, the subtle scent of fabric mist lingering in the air. We believe elegance and ease should coexist. That your home should help you exhale. And that you deserve to feel restored—not just on vacation, but in your everyday life.

My Mission

I created Paulette Maray to be more than a bedding line—it’s a declaration. That rest is essential. That luxury can be accessible. And that our homes are not just where we live—they’re where we heal.

This is for every woman reclaiming softness. For those setting the table again after being knocked off course. For anyone building a life that feels as good as it looks.

Here's to making your home a little more Polished.
